The Concept

The regional dishes reveal themselves in all their splendor in the pairings made with the nectars that make up the vast wine cellar, wines that also uniquely accompany the sharing dishes, in the good tradition of the best conviviality at the table.

Dona Maria Restaurant combines the uniqueness of its space’s architectural design with unique flavors that represent centuries of history and Portugal.

Reincarnating the spirit of the Douro wine region and its slopes, Dona Maria is dressed in autumnal tones and organic shapes that give it movement, such as the ceiling “torn” by giant vine leaves or the sinuous wine cellar that surrounds the entire space. The living room extends to the outside, where a comfortable terrace with a magnificent view of Porto overlooks the rooftops.

João Vieira

With a rich background in renowned hotel kitchens, as well as contributing to revitalizing dining on the luxury ship Spirit of Chartwell, Chef João has taken on the project of Dona Maria Restaurant at The Lodge Hotel. His mission is to revive its core values: tradition, memory, and Portuguese essence. Chef João believes chefs sell dreams, embodying childhood memories and family experiences in their dishes. For Dona Maria's new menu, he introduces a bolder approach, maintaining a balance of excellence and continuous evolution.

Our wine cellar comprises a wide selection of Portuguese and international references carefully chosen by our Head Sommelier.

Housing a wine cellar with more than 400 references, including around 50 by the glass, Dona Maria offers a distinctive experience, whether you are a simple connoisseur or an expert oenophile. Variety, authenticity and character are the main characteristics of a rigorous selection of nectars, which represent and celebrate the culture of vineyards and wine in Portugal.
